Sustaining NHS hospitals for public and planetary wellbeing
This year at the GERF, me and a colleague showcased our projects that collectively explore how the NHS and hospital care can be made more sustainable while protecting patient safety, staff wellbeing, and quality of care.
We had informative posters, surveys to gauge attitudes towards sustainability, brainstorming activities like getting people to rethink and design by sketching on floor plans what an ideal hospital environment that supports wellbeing look like, and It will work with patients, staff, and stakeholders to identify acceptable ways to reduce waste and environmental harm, and to design improvements that support healthier hospitals for people and the planet for generations to come.

We also got members of the public take part in an online survey (completed by 29 participants) which showed strong public support for environmentally sustainable healthcare and surgery, but consistently within a clear safety-first framework.
